Roland Rivera

Associate Attorney

I represent people during some of the most difficult moments of their lives, and I take seriously the trust that clients place in me during those times. Over the years, clients have often referred to me as “the people’s attorney”—not because of slogans, but because I’m accessible, straightforward, and relentless in protecting their rights when it matters most.

My practice focuses on criminal defense, where my extensive knowledge of the law and procedure allows me to aggressively defend my clients and their constitutional rights. I provide top-quality, tailored representation to every client. When you hire me, you can trust that your case will be prepared carefully, your questions will be answered directly, and your defense will be built around your specific circumstances.

Before joining Cofer & Connelly, I ran my own law office in Lubbock, Texas. I quickly earned a reputation as one of the go-to attorneys in the West Texas area for DWI, drug, and alcohol-related offenses, and other serious misdemeanors and felonies. I also served as a magistrate judge for Lubbock County and the City of Lubbock. In that role, I presided over felony and misdemeanor proceedings, made probable cause, arrest, and bail determinations, and issued time-sensitive orders. I bring that bench-level perspective to my clients’ cases—understanding how judges evaluate credibility, assess probable cause, and set bond conditions. I know what goes into a case at the earliest and most critical stages.

While criminal defense is the core of my practice, I’ve also handled complex legal issues in various areas of law, including catastrophic injury, wrongful death, commercial motor vehicle collisions, employment law, property law, business law, probate, and estate planning. This diversified experience allows me to better serve my clients—no matter what legal issues may arise, my clients know they can count on me for guidance.

I earned my law degree from The University of Texas School of Law, graduating with honors, and my undergraduate degree from Texas Tech University, graduating magna cum laude. During my free time, I’m usually spending time with my family and two corgis, Norman and Franklin, making music in my home studio, or watching the San Antonio Spurs or Texas Tech Red Raiders!
