The Courts

Bastrop County encompasses the 21st, 335th, and 423rd District Courts with Judge Carson Campbell, Judge Reva Towslee-Corbett, and Judge Chris Duggan presiding. These Courts handle civil and felony criminal cases in Bastrop County.

Bastrop County Court at Law handles Class A and Class B misdemeanors. Judge Benton Eskew presides over these cases as well as juvenile and CPS matters.

Felony cases in the 21st, 335th, and 423rd District Courts are held in the District Courtroom located in Annex of the Bastrop Courthouse in Downtown Bastrop. Occasionally court is held at the Law Enforcement Center Courtroom at the Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office. The 21st and 335th District Courts also serve Lee, Burleson, and Washington Counties. The 423rd District Court solely serves Bastrop County and oversees felony criminal, civil, and family law cases.

Bastrop County Law Enforcement Resources

The Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) is located at the Law Enforcement Center on Jackson Street. The BCSO is led by Sheriff Maurice Cook, a former Texas Ranger. Sheriff Cook’s duties include, but are not limited to:

  • He oversees criminal investigations.
  • He is responsible for providing security for county and district court operations.
  • He enforces traffic laws, county ordinances, and state laws.
  • He oversees service of process.
  • He accepts bail for prisoners in his custody.
