Garrett Emerson

Senior Associate Attorney

Fighting with everything I’ve got, no matter the situation. That’s my mantra. I believe there is no replacement for hard work and good values. All of which I incorporate into my advocacy and practice of law.

I grew up in the Texas Hill Country. I attended Tivy High School in Kerrville, where I played football under the friday night lights in the fall and threw shotput and discus in the spring. TFND! I spent my childhood summers swimming, fishing, kayaking with friends in the Guadalupe River, and camping at State parks. Growing up in the Hill Country gave me a deep appreciation for family, land, diversity, and the people who call it home.

I completed my undergrad at Texas A&M University and earned a Fightin’ Texas Aggie Class of 2012 bachelor’s degree in history. You could say I’m a history buff, but I also spent my free time performing across the country with the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Wrangler exhibition team.

I got my J.D. from St. Mary’s University School of Law in San Antonio, Texas. I’m a second-generation criminal defense attorney, so I feel like I’ve attended law classes since elementary school. (Call me a life-long learner). Growing up I always admired the way my dad represented his clients, zealously advocating for their rights regardless of the odds. I proudly watched as he was elected county attorney and later District Judge, where he served until retirement. He raised me to treat everyone in the process with respect – clients, judges, court staff and fellow attorneys. I was thrilled to take these lessons with me to law school and continue in his footsteps. My time at St. Mary’s reinforced my passion for criminal defense and the nuances of law.

After graduating law school, I vowed protect the rights and best interests of my clients, and to give a voice to those who feel lost in our complex system. Both in my criminal defense practice and as a former prosecutor, I’ve had the privilege to represent clients in all manner of cases ranging from: juvenile cases to class C misdemeanor tickets to first degree felonies.

In my free time, I am an avid outdoorsman. My family and I love to go outside for all types of adventures: hiking, camping, having fun at the river, or planting a garden. Another fun fact about me- I enjoy working on cars, especially vintage trucks and modern diesel engines!
